Point guard Olivia Miles gave the TCU Horned Frogs a scare during Monday’s Elite Eight showdown against Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks. So what happened to her?
In the third quarter of the TCU vs. South Carolina Elite Eight game, Miles went down on the court. It looked like she hurt her lower left leg. The medical team assessed the situation while she lay on the sidelines.
South Carolina women’s basketball reporter Lulu Kesin soon provided an update. According to her, Miles tried to head to the locker room but couldn’t and was thus treated on the sidelines.
“Olivia Miles is down. She tried walking to the locker room but is now laying on the ground with TCU’s medical staff. She made the layup but can’t see what happened and no replay at the moment,” Kesin wrote.
Thankfully for the Horned Frogs, the injury did not seem severe for Olivia Miles. Daniel Yanofsky reported that the point guard later returned to play in this Elite Eight contest.
Miles was a key player for her team during their Sweet 16 victory over Virginia. She put up a double-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, helping TCU to a 79-69 victory.
Miles began her collegiate career with Notre Dame in 2020. She was projected to go pro in the 2025 WNBA draft. However, the point guard received an extra year of eligibility after suffering a torn ACL injury, which sidelined her for the entire 2023-24 season.
In four years with Notre Dame, Miles averaged 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game.
Olivia Miles Shares Her Thoughts on Returning for Another Year in College
After defeating Virginia in the Sweet 16, Olivia Miles shared her thoughts on returning for her extra year of eligibility and playing for the TCU Horned Frogs. The 2026 Big 12 Player of the Year said she did not regret her decision.
“I’m so happy about that,” Miles said, as per ESPN. “But no, that’s just another bonus as to what I wanted to do here. I feel the people around me have helped me to love basketball again and compete at a high level, and hold people accountable, challenge people, and be vulnerable with people that I know love me, support me, and care for me.”
This season, Miles played in 37 games for TCU and averaged 19.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg, and 6.6 apg.
