Vic Schaefer’s Texas finally lost its first game after a series of dominant performances. First loss of the season came against Kim Mulkey’s passionate LSU Tigers. Schaefer’s team has played some incredible basketball this season. They have an 18-1 record, and even in defeat, it was not a bad performance from the Longhorns.
In 19 games so far, Madison Booker and Rori Harmon have been at the forefront of all things positive for Texas. Booker leads the team with 19.2 points and 7.3 rebounds, while Harmon leads with 7.4 assists and 2.9 steals. Schaefer’s team depends on these two pillars to reach the NCAA tournament. However, Texas lost to a resilient LSU team.
The game ended 70-65 in LSU’s favor. Mikaylah Williams led the scores for LSU with 20 points, while Flau’jae Johnson, Jada Richard, ZaKiyah Johnson, and MiLaysia Fulwiley got 10 points each. For Texas, on the other hand, Booker led the charge with 24 points and 7 rebounds. However, Harmon faltered with just 2 points. Apart from the loss to LSU, head coach Vic Schaefer also shed light on an issue that he thought was certainly pressing. So much so that he called it “vendetta” against the Texas Longhorns.
“Two weeks ago this team, that we just played was number five in the country and you know it’s bare. They obviously have a vendetta against Texas ’cause not only have we started in the league now get to play South Carolina twice last year. This year I get LSU twice but I have go at 16 games. 16 games this year and I have to play South Carolina on the road this year as well as LSU. I get them back-to-back in the same week. Make that make sense,” Schaefer complained.
“So the league is hard enough as it is, but then to bless me, me and my group with that, it really has a stench to it. And the common denominator is LSU and South Carolina both played Georgia before they played me. And South Carolina was at home today. I am disappointed. I am really disappointed in the league, for putting our kids in that position,” he added.
Fans Slam Head Coach Vic Schaefer For Complaining About Texas’ Schedule
Fans online did not agree with Vic Schaefer’s comment about a ‘vendetta’ against Texas.
“You can’t make schedules based on what is expected of one team or another. Everybody has difficult stretches. Why would the SEC want to hurt Texas women’s basketball. Answer: It wouldn’t,” one fan explained.
“You wanted to be in the SEC…. Well, this is what it’s about. It’s about one to two teams every year in each sport getting a blasted schedule. Get over it & get used to it, or get out & go back to the “big” 12,” another fan called out.
“That’s hilarious. I don’t know enough about Texas’ WBB, but I do know that Texas gets the easiest scheduling in football & baseball,” another fan said.
“This is what they signed up for,” one fan addressed.
“Come on Vic. You’re better than that,” another commented.
“Cry more,” another trolled.
