“Whoop Their A**”: Lauren Betts’ UCLA Celebrating Possible Matchup With Geno Auriemma’s UConn Sets Fans Abuzz

Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies are the No. 1 overall seed in the women’s NCAA Tournament bracket. The Huskies’ unbeaten 34-0 run had nearly guaranteed them that position, which was solidified on Selection Sunday.

They edged Lauren Betts’ UCLA Bruins for the spot, who also had a stellar run this season. The Bruins went on a 25-game winning streak and lost just one game throughout the season against Texas on a neutral court.

Betts’ team wasn’t pleased when the UConn No. 1 overall seed announcement was made. The Athletic’s Ira Gorawara posted a video of the UCLA women’s team reacting to the announcement.

“UCLA women’s basketball reacts to UConn getting the No. 1 overall seed. Boos from some fans but not much reaction from the team,” she wrote.

The Bruins have something to be happy about. The ranking has set up a potential elite matchup between the two teams, and they might get the opportunity to go head-to-head in the tournament.

We’ll have to wait and see how the season pans out for the teams, but the UConn fans didn’t like the Bruins’ reaction to their team securing the No. 1 overall seed.

“Ladies look at this and whoop their a*s,” a fan wrote.

“UCLA cares way too much about seeding & LSU still lives rent free in their heads. UConn never conducts watch parties. They hardly watch the bracket reveal. The mindset difference is why UConn is ELITE,” a fan wrote.

“they still remember what happened the last time #lol,” a fan wrote.

“we’ll see you in april ucla ruins,” a fan wrote.

“LSU has the chance to do the funniest sh*t ever,” a fan wrote.

“UConn giving B2A its ok,” a fan wrote.

It has the potential to be one of the biggest matchups of the season. With fans igniting the fire already, the game will become bigger than a showdown between two of the best teams.

Being Top Seed Doesn’t Matter to Geno Auriemma

Auriemma is only focusing on his ultimate goal, leading the Huskies to an unbeaten title run. Despite leading the team to an unbeaten record so far and producing one of the best seasons for any program in years, he is not in the mood to celebrate the No. 1 overall seed.

“We have been in that situation before, not that much different than being a No. 2 seed or a No. 1 seed somewhere else,” he said.

Auriemma stated that there are a lot of good teams in the bracket, and his team has been dominant against them as well. The UConn head coach acknowledged that his team deserved to be the top seed this season.
