Once again, South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley proved that she is the best when it comes to facing her rival, LSU Tigers coach Kim Mulkey. On Saturday, a Valentine’s Day special was played between coach Staley’s Gamecocks against coach Mulkey’s Tigers in the latter’s home court.
Unfortunately for Mulkey, her curse with Staley continued as LSU lost to the Gamecocks 79-72, much to the dismay of their home crowd. The game stayed closed for majority of the time, but South Carolina pulled away in the final minute.
College basketball fans and spectators started hailing Staley as the current GOAT among the sport’s coaches as she tallied her 500th win as the main shot-caller of South Carolina.
“Dawn Staley just got her 500th win as a head coach at South Carolina. Forever a GOAT in women’s basketball🫡,” one user pointed out with an emoji.
“500th Win!!! Dawn Staley is the MF GOAT!!! #LSUvSC,” another fan exclaimed.
“Dawn Staley is my goat,” another user said.
“DAWN MICHELLE STALEY 500 HI HATERS THE STANDARD CAME AND LEFT WITH THE DUB 🏀🤣,” a fan shared with emojis.
Other users on X/Twitter praised Staley as she continued to dominate Mulkey.
“Dawn Staley owns LSU,” one fan claimed.
“Kim Mulkey when she sees Dawn Staley,” another fan captioned with a meme of NBA superstar Joel Embiid.
“THAT PMAC NEEDS TO BE RENAMED AFTER DAWN STALEY ASAP!!!,” a fan wrote.
With the results of the Gamecocks-Tigers matchup, the sport’s landscape in relation to the recently-released first top 16 list by the NCAA selection committee may continually push the Gamecocks upwards while LSU will spiral down. The Tigers now possess an overall record of 22-4 (8-4 SEC), while South Carolina improves to a current record of 25-2 (11-1 SEC).
Dawn Staley Extends Her Lead Against Kim Mulkey In Their Head-To-Head Record
With the recent win over the LSU Tigers in the 2025-26 regular season, South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley has extended her lead against Mulkey in their head-to-head overall record to 7-2. The curse that is being talked about points toward Mulkey’s record since she became LSU’s head coach. Mulkey has not won against Staley in six different attempts.
