The UConn Lady Huskies five-star commit, Olivia Vukosa, has been named a McDonald’s All-American this week. Vukosa is one of the top recruits in the nation this cycle, with her being considered the fourth overall prospect in her class, the top prospect out of New York, and the top center in the nation.
The news of her selection as a McDonald’s All-American got a congratulatory message from a future teammate of hers: Kayleigh Heckel. Heckel was also a McDonald’s All-American in 2024. That year, she was also named to the Jordan Brand Classic.

The Huskies guard reposted Vukosa’s selection announcement to her Instagram story and added the following caption:
“newest husky burger girlll🍔🍔.”
Vukosa was born and raised in New York state, but she also holds a dual nationality with Croatia and represents the Balkan nation on the international stage. Last year, she won a bronze medal 2025 FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket (Division B), which helped Croatia get promoted to Division A of the competition. Her international debut came in 2023 at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship, where she was named to the All-Star 5. She also represented Croatia at the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup, where she won the Best Defensive Player award and All-Star Second Team honors.
While her parents are also Americans, her grandparents from both sides immigrated to the United States from Croatia.
Geno Auriemma On Olivia Vukosa’s Commitment To The UConn Huskies
In November, the Huskies got the commitment of the powerful center to their class of 2026. About getting the powerful center to commit to the Storrs school, coach Geno Auriemma had this to say at the time:
“We think Olivia is one of those players that we’ve had so much success with. She’s a big kid who can move, she has skills, she’s smart. She works really hard at both ends of the floor. She comes from a great program. I think she’s the kind of basketball big kid that the game demands today. She’s a terrific kid and comes from a great family. We’re really lucky, and we’re excited to have her here.”
Vukosa attended Christ the King in Middle Village, New York. The high school has historic connections to UConn, with legends like Sue Bird and Tina Charles also attending there. For her achievements as a high school player, she earned the 2024-25 Gatorade New York Girls Basketball Player of the Year and the 2024-25 New York MaxPreps High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year awards.
