“This Why KD Was Hating On Her”: Fans React As JuJu Watkins Set To Become First Player To Sign For LeBron James’ NXXT Line

JuJu Watkins is having a huge honor thrust upon her. She’s getting a signature shoe with Nike, under LeBron James’ NXXT line. She’s the first athlete to achieve this. Fans immediately reacted to the news online.

For most fans, this was a huge honor that the player fully deserves.

“From LeBron’s line to her own legacy JuJu’s rise is signature,” wrote one person

“JuJu getting her first signature under LeBron’s NXXT line? That’s respect from the King. First athlete on that label means she’s elite enough to carry it. Women’s basketball getting that shoe push is important. That’s representation hitting different right there,” explained another fan

“JuJu Watkins getting her first signature shoe? 😱🔥 Making history under LeBron’s NXXT line! Who else is excited to see these kicks drop? 👟✨,” said an excited fan

Fans just couldn’t help but get excited about this bit of news.

“Huge milestone for JuJu Watkins. Getting her first signature shoe under LeBron James’s NXXT line with Nike is not just about sneakers it’s recognition of her impact and rising star status in basketball. Excited to see the design drop this summer,” said yet another fan

Others joked around a bit and thought recent comments by Kevin Durant were just jealousy.

“Ahhh this why KD was hating on her😂,” joked someone

A few fans did think this was unwarranted and that the USC star hadn’t earned such an honor yet.

“Congrats but it feels too soon. All of this from 1 ¼ really good season? She’s been out now what feels like almost 2 years, not been drafted, no WNBA experience or accomplishments, no all pro, no all star, no olympic, no championships. Just potential and hope,” explained another person

Others simply think the show won’t be a financial success.

“Nobody is buying them. Dudes won’t be and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a girl rocking Sabrina’s shoe,” wrote someone

How is JuJu Watkins’ Recovery Going?

During the 2025 NCAA Tournament second round, Watkins suffered a season-ending ACL injury that has ever since kept her off the court. Speaking recently with The Athletic, the player had this to say about her injury and recovery:

“I’m in a really good place,” Watkins told The Athletic. “I’m continuing to go through it, but not taking any day for granted. Trying to get out there as soon as I can, but also listening to my body. I’m still growing as a player, even though I’m not out there.”

She’s expected to return at some point in the 2026-27 season, but when exactly is not known, although judging from her words, she expects to be ready near the season’s start.
