It had been an emotional last few days for USC freshman guard Jazzy Davidson, who had carried the Trojans as the team’s biggest star, JuJu Watkins, struggled with injury. First, she and the Trojans outlasted higher-ranked Clemson before falling to No. 1 South Carolina by 40 points. Then, she received a prestigious national award.
Jazzy Davidson was just named the USBWA National Freshman of the Year, and the ISC women’s basketball page shared a childhood photo of her wearing some pink sunglasses. This had her teammate, JuJu Watkins, celebrating on her Instagram Stories:

When she was a freshman, JuJu Watkins also won the award, which means that Jazzy Davidson is now the second USC player in history to win it. With Watkins sidelined with a torn ACL, an injury that often takes months to heal, it was Davidson who stepped up and guided the Trojans to March Madness.
Aside from her Freshman of the Year win, she was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, an Honorable Mention All-American, a First-Team All-Big Ten selection, a Big Ten All-Defensive Team selection and a Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection.
Jazzy Davidson Reacts to USBWA National Freshman of the Year Win
As for Jazzy Davidson herself, it was Watkins who revealed to her that she won the USBWA Freshman of the Year award during a team meeting. This was soon posted on X, and it included her reaction on being given the award.
“I’m just so grateful,” Davidson said. “I think it’s really just a testament to the people that I have around me. I have amazing teammates and amazing coaches that have poured into me so much this season. It’s not a one person thing, it’s a village of people that can make things like this happen.”
With JuJu Watkins being projected to be back by the start of next season, expect USC to improve on a lot of things. The Trojans also have several five-star recruits like Saniyah Hall, Sara Oseke and Satiya Fagan on their way for next season, so expect the team to have a young core anchored by Davidson and Watkins.
