Who Are Joyce Edwards’ Parents? Inside the Family Behind South Carolina Star

Joyce Edwards joined the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2024. The 20-year-old forward stands at 6’3 and is one of the best players on one of the best teams in the country. She is also having a breakout season.

Edwards is averaging 20 points per game with 6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks. She is shooting 59.8% from the field and has been one of the main reasons behind South Carolina’s success this season.

Although she’s yet to win an NCAA title, in 2025, she made the Freshman All-American, First-team All-SEC, and SEC All-Freshman Team. This is just the beginning of what is destined to be a legendary basketball career for Edwards.

Like most great athletes, Edwards is hard-working and dedicated to her craft. A lot of inspiration for that comes from her home. Her mother, Rasheedah Edwards, is an engineer and has three kids, Don, Joyce, and Tyler.

Edwards’ father, Charlie, is also an engineer and has played a huge role in the early development of the South Carolina star. Her parents aren’t fond of the spotlight and like to stay away from it, which is why very little is known about them.

However, Edwards always thanks them for everything they’ve done, letting the world know that her success is a direct result of the upbringing she received from her proud parents.

Dawn Staley Heaps Praise on Joyce Edwards

Dawn Staley is one of the proudest coaches in college basketball. She is known to be strict at times, but whenever her players do well, which is quite often, Staley never holds back while praising them publicly.

Earlier in the season, Staley said that Edwards is a fierce competitor who is capable of dictating the outcome of games on her own.

“Joyce is a competitor and Joyce wants to score a lot of points, she’s very capable of doing that that,” she said. “Joyce isn’t just a scorer, she’s a really great playmaker, she can make the play that’s suppose to be made … we’re challenging her to open up that part of her game.”

Edwards understands the responsibility that she carries on her shoulders. Even when she’s on good runs, she never allows the momentum to get into her head. Edwards likes to remain focused and believes in being consistent with her game.

“All about doing what the game gives you,” Edwards said. “At the end of the day, I’m a basketball player, I’ve been playing for a while so I just got out there and play basketball.”

That approach is steadily shaping her up as a complete player on the court.
