Did Jazzy Davidson Pick USC Over South Carolina? All We Know About 5-Star Recruit’s Dawn Staley Ties

With the second round of the 2026 Women’s March Madness fixture between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the USC Trojans set to tip off in a few hours tonight at the Colonial Life Arena, all eyes are on the USC Trojans’ breakout freshman guard Jazzy Davidson.

While the Gamecocks are the overwhelming favorites in this encounter, the Trojans can’t be written off just yet, and part of the reason behind that is Davidson’s scintillating form and the overall impact she’s had on the Gamecocks’ season so far.

However, before officially committing to USC during the recruitment season back in 2024, Davidson weighed a lot of options before finally deciding on her next destination. Amongst the potential suitors, the South Carolina Gamecocks were one of the options on Davidson’s list of programs. While the five-star class of 2025 recruit finally decided to join USC following the footsteps of the class of 2024’s no one recruit, and her now partner, Juju Watkins, a Davidson-Staley linkup could have very well been a reality.

Meanwhile, Gamecocks’ head coach Dawn Staley also rates Jazzy Davidson very highly. Ahead of her side’s last encounter against the Trojans back in November last year, Staley spoke about Davidson’s “free” gameplay whilst also singing praises of the freshman’s hoop skills.

“She’s playing free. She gets the ball in positions where she’s very, very effective. So I don’t think she feels any pressure. I think she feels like this is what she’s supposed to be doing, and she plays well with the ball in her hands, and she makes good decisions, she makes great shots. Just a high-level player. Like, a really high-level player that doesn’t really play like a freshman”,  Staley stated back in November 2025.

Davidson has been a force to be reckoned with this season, as she currently averages around 18 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in the 31 games played so far for the Southern California-based program.

Davidson Reveals Trojan’s Plan For The Gamecocks Ahead Of Crucial Round Two Fixture

While Davidson prepares for what perhaps could be the biggest challenge for the Trojans this season in the form of South Carolina, it looks like the freshman guard is ready to take them head-on in the all-important March Madness round 2 fixture.

Ahead of the South Carolina game, Davidson gave insights into how the Trojans will try to mitigate the Gamecocks’ efficacy, whilst also acknowledging the strength of their opponents.

“They’re everything they’re advertised to be. We’re really just focused on taking away the things that they do best, which is rebounding and limiting their touches”, Davidson stated.

The winner of this fixture will book a Sweet Sixteen berth, further inching towards the elusive national championship.
