Caitlin Clark. Her name is entrenched in the history of Iowa and of college basketball. She holds numerous NCAA records, perhaps the biggest one being the all-time leading scorer for both men’s and women’s basketball with 3,951 points. She also brought the Iowa Hawkeyes on the map in women’s basketball, as they reached back-to-back national championship games and saw eye-to-eye with giants like UConn and South Carolina.
When Clark got drafted by the Indiana Fever, the Hawkeyes went through a rebuild. They got Lucy Olsen via the transfer portal to carry forward the legacy left behind. However, last season was underwhelming for Iowa, which went just 23-11 and only got as high as No. 17 on the AP Poll.
But now, the Hawkeyes are flying high once again.
After a long two-year wait, Iowa Hawkeyes have entered the top 10 of the women’s college basketball AP poll for the first time since Caitlin Clark’s playing days. The list stands:
- UConn Huskies
- South Carolina
- UCLA Bruins
- Texas Longhorns
- Vanderbilt Commodores
- LSU Tigers
- Michigan Wolverines
- Louisville Cardinals
- TCU Horned Frogs
- Iowa Hawkeyes
