Geno Auriemma Seen Battling Dawn Staley Again as 2027 Class Brings Rivals Together

Geno Auriemma and Dawn Staley were seen together for the first time since their infamous confrontation during March Madness that made headlines all over the women’s college basketball world.

On Saturday, @WNBAZodiac on X/Twitter uploaded a video that was taken from @uanextgirlshoops on Instagram, showing UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma and South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley at the same venue.

It is then seen that the two legendary coaches attended a Girls Under Armour Association game that pitted some of the best players from the high school class of 2027. While they are not confirmed to have come to the event together, it was striking to see Auriemma and Staley close to one another as they sat on the same bench.

The video also shows longtime LSU Tigers assistant coach Seimone Augustus.

It seems as though both Auriemma and Staley are already recruiting for their respective programs, and it won’t matter to them if they are in the same place at the same time. The beef between Auriemma and Staley began after their 2026 NCAA Final Four matchup, in which the latter’s team defeated the former’s by 14 points, 62-48. Following the game, as they met at center court, the two exchanged heated words.

The Final Statement Regarding The Dawn Staley-Geno Auriemma Beef Came From The Latter

Given that they were recently seen at the same venue and within proximity of each other, it seems as though the beef between Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma has been squashed.

Nevertheless, it was Auriemma who actually last spoke publicly about it, as his final statement came on April 8. The tenured tactician affirmed that he and Staley have agreed to move on for the sake of their sport.

“Those who know me know I have nothing but respect and admiration for the game and the coaches who coach it. Dawn and her team deserved to win, and they deserved better from me. Women’s basketball deserved better. My university, my athletes, my former players and our fans deserved better. Dawn and I have agreed to move on, and we hope the focus will shift back to the growth in women’s basketball. The game deserves it,” Auriemma wrote.
