Dawn Staley is known for garnering some great talents in her 18 years at South Carolina. The breakout star, the legend of the program and possibly one of the greatest players ever, A’ja Wilson was also one of the first players to make it big in South Carolina under Staley.
Most recently, one great star who rose up the ranks was Raven Johnson. She was one of the most talented players in college basketball for the last four years. Playing the national championship game for two years in a row, she has proved she is made for the big moments.
This year she got picked as the 10th over pick in the WNBA draft. Raven Johnson is set to play with Caitlin Clark for Indiana Fever this year. And no one is more excited for her than her ex-coach and Dawn Staley’s assistant at South Carolina.
South Carolina assistant coach Khadija Sessions took to her X account to heap praise on Raven Johnson. “PG1 is going to be such a good WNBA player,” she posted. Raven Johnson was widely known as PG1 in her South Carolina days, and Sessions made the big prediction for her favorite.
