Dan Dakich Calls Out Cathy Engelbert’s ‘Tone-Deaf’ Leadership In WNBA’s Golden Era Following Dan Patrick Show Snub

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert’s leadership has been under scrutiny for multiple decisions and actions. A lot has happened in the league since the new season started, and analyst and host Dan Patrick invited her to his show to answer a few of the fans’ questions about the league on Friday. However, she seemingly ghosted Patrick, and he narrated the entire story on his show. This irked insider Dan Dakich.

Since Caitlin Clark has arrived in the WNBA, things have changed for the better. New fans and new perspectives have joined the sport, and salaries have surged significantly. However, this season’s events around Clark have not gone smoothly. And Dakich pointed a finger at Engelbert’s leadership after ducking the show.

Patrick informed Dakich that the commissioner appeared on a radio show in Kansas but not on Patrick’s show, as she didn’t want to answer tough questions. Dakich said:

“You’re the commissioner of the league. Yes, there are times when you listen to PR. I’ve been in these situations. … And I always sat there, and I listened. and this ,though, you don’t listen to unless you’re so tone-deaf about what’s going on in your league, unless, my opinion, you are so afraid of the angry African American le**ians getting mad at you and canceling you … because those things do matter to her, she is not a leader.”

Cathy Engelbert’s absence holds a lot of importance, given the criticism the league has recieved after a watershed moment in the WNBA. Caitlin Clark’s constant run-ins with referees and flopping incidents have been at the center of it all. Moreover, many have argued that she gets special treatment from officials.

Dan Patrick criticizes Cathy Engelbert on his show

After Dan Patrick’s episode with Cathy Engelbert didn’t materialize, the host detailed the behind-the-scenes details on his show. He called out the commissioner for avoiding answering difficult questions when the league is at a crucial juncture:

“If you want to be treated as a serious league, this is what happens! These are tough questions, but this is a fair outlet for you – a fair platform. I will treat you with respect.”

Meanwhile, Englebert was in a casual golf tournament over the weekend, along with other amateurs. Several other analysts, like Jemele Hill, have agreed with Patrick and Dakich’s takes and believe that the WNBA commissioner should be more in the public and among fans, answering any and every doubt about the credibility.

Favorable treatment of Clark is the center of those talks. Moreover, the state of officiating has been called out by several players on regular occasions.
