Dawn Staley Drops Blunt Reality Check For Vic Schaefer After HC’s Rant About “Vendetta Against Texas”

Dawn Staley is known for her straightforwardness. She is not someone who would be rude, but putting things in perspective is something she does well. South Carolina Gamecocks’ mentality and mindset have been built on Staley’s values. She has trained herself and her team for any situation, game, and opponent.

Vic Schaefer has been a coach since 1987. He has coached some great teams in his long tenure. He joined the Texas Longhorns in 2020 and has had a successful record with them. Schaefer has over 160 wins and just about 40 losses in five years with the team. He has led them to multiple Elite Eights and Big 12 Championships.

Apart from the drive for success, another thing that might be common between Dawn Staley and Vic Schaefer is their strong opinions. Schaefer recently questioned the SEC scheduling, alleging a “vendetta against Texas.”

This outburst came after Kim Mulkey’s LSU handed the Longhorns their first loss of the season. He was talking about the back-to-back games against LSU and South Carolina.

However, Dawn Staley doesn’t agree with his views. She recently responded to Schaefer’s rant.

“It’s the SEC. It’s SEC. It’s unforgiving. No matter how you look at it. If you focus on anything beyond the immediate game, it’ll catch you. So, I mean, do I think the SEC like we’ve been the top team in this league for a very long time? And yes, we break down the schedule and I don’t think the schedule benefits us because we’ve been at the top and I don’t want it to,” Dawn said.

“Don’t give us anything. Don’t give even the type of success that we’ve had. Don’t give us anything. We don’t we expect nothing because it’s the road is hard. if someone sets it up for you to, you know, to eat off this golden platter, you know, it’s not going it’s not going to be the right season,” she added.
