Dawn Staley is often considered in the GOAT conversation when it comes to women’s basketball, and it isn’t limited to her incredible achievements as a coach.
The South Carolina Gamecocks coach was a top player in the WNBA, setting numerous records, but she’ll have to share the spotlight on one of these honors with a rising star.
Olivia Miles shone on her debut with the Minnesota Lynx, showing just why the WNBA mock drafts had her listed as one of the favorites to go No. 1. She finished with 21 points and 8 assists in a losing cause against the Atlanta Dream. In the process, Miles became the fifth player to register at least 20 points and five assists on debut, joining Staley, Candace Parker, Tonya Edwards and Cynthia Cooper.
Miles was the star of the show against the Dream, continuing where she left off with TCU. The Dream’s Allisha Gray was the only player who outscored the rookie, finishing with 24 points.
The Lynx will be disappointed they ended up losing, though, but lots of positives were seen in a short period of time, which should leave their fans with tons of confidence.
Fans Happy With Olivia Miles’ Display
Fans were quick to congratulate the former TCU star for her performance.
Miles was one of just four players to record over 2000 points, 800 assists and 700 rebounds at the NCAA level and it seems she’s just touching the surface when it comes to excelling at the professional level.
