South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley just had her interview playfully interrupted by a couple of her key players.
On Wednesday, Jan. 14, Staley appeared in a video uploaded by women’s basketball reporter Claire Foley on her X/Twitter account. The 40-second video saw Staley speak to reporters.
However, what got the attention of many was when Staley’s standout guards, Ta’Niya Latson and Raven Johnson, passed by behind Staley during her interview. Latson and Johnson also waved into the camera while standing behind Staley.
Latson is currently in her first stint under the tutelage of Staley and the Gamecocks program in the 2025-26 college basketball season. She spent her first four campaigns with the Florida State Seminoles. Johnson, on the other hand, is in the fifth and final year of her collegiate tenure, having spent all of them with the South Carolina-based program. She was a part of the 2022 and 2024 national title-winning squads.
Currently, Staley and the Gamecocks have an overall record of 17-1 (4-0 SEC) and are set to take on their rivals, the Texas Longhorns, on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Dawn Staley Does Not Make Her Players Dwell Too Much On What Is At Stake With The NCAA Tournament
The moment when Ta’Niya Latson and Raven Johnson jokingly interfered with Dawn Staley’s interview came during a recent media availability the 55-year-old had.
The media availability, which has since been uploaded to the South Carolina Gamecocks YouTube channel, had Staley answer whether she talks to her players about what’s at stake with every passing regular-season game.
“ I did mention it, I mentioned it after our last game, just the ramifications of wins and losses and tie-breakers and all of that, and seeding, NCAA selection seeding, and what they look for and this type of matchup they grade you on. So, yes, a little bit but I don’t think they’re tuned into that right now. They’re really locked into the game,” Staley shared.
