Coach Yo Makes Settlement Plans as Cotie McMahon’s WNBA Destination Sparks Big Reaction

Yolett McPhee-McCuin is over the moon as former Ole Miss Rebels star Cotie McMahon got selected in the first round of the 2026 WNBA Draft. McMahon played for Ohio State for the first three years of her college basketball career.

In 2025, she transferred to the Ole Miss Rebels to play under Coach Yo, who had been in that position since 2018. McMahon had a good run with the Rebels in her final season as a college athlete.

She averaged 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting over 45% from the field. McMahon played the best basketball of her career as the Rebels made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

With the help of a great run last season and her development over the last four years, McMahon got selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics. She was the only player from the Ole Miss Rebels to be picked in the first round.

Her former coach, Yolett McPhee-McCuin, expressed her excitement on social media. She took to X to share a picture of McMahon, taking a post-draft picture, wearing her Washington Mystics hat.

Coach Yo congratulated McMahon and said that she will have to get an apartment in Washington now to watch two of her players in the WNBA.

“WASHINGTOOOOONNNNNN! I need to get an apartment there because we got 2 REBS in DC! ❤️💙🫶🏽 love you so much @cotiemcmahon23 you deserve this!” she wrote.

Latasha Lattimore is the other Ole Miss player who was selected in the draft tonight. Lattimore was picked in the second round by the Chicago Sky.

Coach Yo Called Out Poor Officiating After Cotie McMahon Fouled Out

The Ole Miss Rebels played the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They lost 63-65 and were eliminated from the tournament. Coach Yo called out poor officiating after the game.

McMahon only played 21 minutes in that game before being fouled out.

“From my point of view, the last call was incorrect. We watched it 1,500 times. One of the things I do understand is that officials are human and environments create them to officiate in a particular type of way. I don’t think that’s why we lost the game. I just know that Cotie is leading scorer, the newcomer of the year, all of the things, and she plays 20 minutes,” she said.

Coach Yo was disappointed for her star player, the team, and the fans who wanted to watch McMahon give her 100% on the floor.
