Ayanna Patterson has committed to the Kentucky Wildcats after two seasons with the UConn Huskies. Patterson averaged 7.5 minutes per game in two seasons for 2 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting over 48% from the field.
Although Patterson didn’t have a good season, the Huskies went on a 38-0 run. Their unbeaten run came to an end when they faced the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Final Four and lost 48-62. Their loss was marred in controversy following a heated exchange between Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma.
The Huskies are losing several key players this year, including Azzi Fudd, as she’s going to the WNBA. The active transfer portal window will also make some big changes in the program, and Patterson’s exit is an indication of that.
However, fans have a mixed reaction to her decision to join the Kentucky Wildcats. While some supported her choice and wished her well, others wondered if she would make another Final Four run without UConn.
“Won’t make a final four there young lady,” a fan wrote.

The Wildcats made it to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament this year.
Azzi Fudd Praised Ayanna Patterson
Even though Patterson doesn’t have the best stats in the last two seasons, her teammates appreciated her for everything she did. During a press conference, Azzi Fudd heaped praise on the forward.
Fudd said that despite not getting enough time on the court, Patterson gave her all she had every time she stepped on the court.
“I just want to make that public announcement because she doesn’t get the attention that she deserves,” she said. “But she is one of the best teammates to play with because she’s going to run through a wall for you.”
Patterson played her role perfectly, and the recognition from her teammates proved that they valued what she did for them on and off the court.
