On the eve of the transfer portal, UConn Huskies forward Ayanna Patterson shocked many by announcing her decision to leave. The 6-foot-2 forward from Fort Wayne, Indiana, has two years of eligibility remaining due to an injury-plagued career. After missing the last two seasons completely, the redshirt sophomore returned in the 2025-26 season, playing 30 games but only averaging five minutes per game.
Her decision may have stemmed from the fact that UConn’s frontcourt is crowded with returning players, including National Player of the Year Sarah Strong and Big East Freshman of the Year Blanca Quinonez at forward. Moreover, she would have also been required to compete for a spot with fellow redshirt sophomore center Jana El Alfy and No. 3 2026 recruit Olivia Vukosa.
With that in mind, here are five destinations that best fit her profile.
5 Potential Landing Spots for UConn Star Ayanna Patterson
1. Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana makes sense as it is Ayanna Patterson’s hometown. She’s also familiar with the Hoosiers system and could play a large role there. When she decided to enter the transfer portal, fans began suspecting this move.
2. Michigan Wolverines
Michigan is rebuilding after several departures and it needs depth in its front court. The Wolverines could really use someone with Patterson’s skillset.
Unlike Indiana, Michigan is a competitive Big Ten program with potential Elite Eight ceiling. Therefore, Patterson could gain exposure while also getting good minutes on the floor.
3. Virginia Cavaliers
The former No. 4 recruit could also consider Virginia, which is expected to be aggressive in the transfer portal. The Cavaliers need a big forward with size, athleticism, and versatility. Patterson seems to fit right in. Here, she could get immediate playing time.
4. Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners are leaking frontcourt pieces this transfer portal. They need to address the situation by adding through the transfer portal. An athletic forward who can run the floor will be their preference. The up-tempo system here could unlock Patterson’s athleticism.
5. Kentucky Wildcats
The Wildcats are undergoing roster turnover and if Patterson can impress coaches during practice, she could fit right in. However, this is a risky option since the competition for places would be fierce.
