The WNBA Draft has taken the city of New York by storm, and Angel Reese is ready for it. The event, which is said to take place at The Shed at Hudson Yards at 7 pm ET this Monday, will help us identify who the next crop of players set to play at the highest level of the women’s side of the sport is.
Someone happy about it is Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese. The former LSU player took to her X account to hype up South Carolina’s Raven Johnson ahead of the event. From the tweet, it can be inferred that Reese has seen Johnson’s attire for the evening, and she seems to be impressed, as she wrote:
“Raven look sooo good😍Excited for my girllll.”
Johnson is a two-time NCAA champion with South Carolina (2022, 2024), the school where she spent her entire college career between 2022 and 2026. Meanwhile, in 2026, the Gamecocks fell short of a third national championship with a championship game defeat to UCLA. It was the crowning season for Johnson, who was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and also received Third Team All-American, Second Team All-SEC, and SEC All-Defensive Team selections.
Raven is expected to be a first-round pick this Monday night, with some predictions even having her as a top-10 pick.
The Atlanta Dream is excited to get Angel Reese this offseason
Angel Reese is going through a transition of her own, as after two seasons with the Chicago Sky, the seventh overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft has been traded to the Atlanta Dream for the upcoming 2026 season.
Coach Karl Smesko revealed on Sunday his excitement about having Reese on board:
“Part of the coaching staff’s responsibility is developing players,” Smesko said on a media video call with Dream general manager Dan Padover. “When Angel comes in, we’ll sit down and talk and come up with a plan together. You want something that the player’s involved in, so they understand what we’re trying to get accomplished. They can help you formulate a good plan for their own development if you listen to them.”
Reese has had two successful seasons in the WNBA so far, having made the All-Star game both years. She was also a WNBA All-Rookie team selection in 2024 and was the WNBA Peak Performer and rebounding leader in both seasons.
