Azzi Fudd’s UConn Huskies have been one of the favorites to win the NCAA title since the season started. There are a lot of factors that make the scales tip in UConn’s favor, with their roster strength being their biggest asset.
The Huskies are still undefeated after 36 games. They’ve demolished every opponent in this season so far and are set to face the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Sweet 16 round today. A win here would push them to the Elite Eight.
While there’s no denying UConn’s chances of winning March Madness, other teams who are also in Sweet 16 have a strong case in the title race as well. However, Andraya Carter is fully invested in the UConn vision.
During a recent appearance on Get Up, Carter was asked to pick her team from the Sweet 16 lot who is most likely to win the title. Carter, without hesitation, picked the UConn Huskies.
“I know it’s March Madness and anything can happen, but in UConn versus the field, I’m taking UConn,” she said.
Carter then went on to explain why UConn is the obvious choice in the bracket. She believes that the Huskies are very hard to plan against as they possess players like Sarah Strong, who is versatile and can score from all three levels, and they also have Azzi Fudd, who is one of the best long-range shooters in the country.
“You’ve got two superstars, but also excellent role players and they’re connected on the offensive end, they’re so tough on the defensive end, they make it hard for teams to go north and south,” she added.
In addition to all the great players that they have, Carter said that one of UConn’s biggest strengths is Geno Auriemma, who has been to this phase of the season more than any other coach.
Which Team Has the Best Chance Against Azzi Fudd’s UConn?
The teams that have made it to the Sweet 16 and will advance further into the season are some of the best teams in the country this season. So, the competition is going to be difficult for every team.
After she heaped praise on UConn, Carter was asked if there’s a team that has the best chance against the Huskies.
“I would go with UCLA, and that matchup wouldn’t happen until the national championship game,” Carter said.
She outlined that UCLA has three-point shooting, guard play, and their strongest weapon, Lauren Betts. If these two teams meet in the tournament, UCLA can create a big problem for UConn and potentially cause an upset.
