Many believe she should jump to the next level and coach in the WNBA. Many also argue that she has the ability to even coach an NBA team someday. And maybe that day isn’t far away.
“Mavs could interview Dawn Staley for their head coaching vacancy,” Mavericks insider Christian Clark reported.
The New York Knicks once invited Dawn Staley for an interview. Staley has shared multiple times that she sat for a formal interview in 2025 and thoroughly enjoyed the process even though the Knicks did not offer her the job.

According the NBA analyst Brett Siegel, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer was supposedly considered for Dallas Mavericks job. There was a lot of discourse on the report. The fans from both sides weren’t in favor of the move.
The Mavs thought Jon Scheyer doesn’t have enough experience for the job while the Duke fans did not want Jon Scheyer to leave the team. There hasn’t been any confirmed interest for either of the two college basketball coaches.
