Over the past month, Sophie Cunningham has gone viral for a number of reasons, including her finger-pointing meme and her appearance at UFC 329. Interestingly, both her meme and ring girl stint came into play at UFC’s latest event.
After flyweight competitor Dione Barbosa secured a submission victory in the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 281 on Saturday, she did the Cunningham finger point as she gestured at members of her camp.
Just a week ago, Cunningham was shown on camera as one of the high-profile attendees of UFC 329, which was headlined by the return of Irish superstar Conor McGregor.
To the surprise of viewers, the Indiana Fever star would make another appearance, holding up the Round 1 card as the guest ring girl for the Benoit Saint Denis vs. Paddy Pimblett co-main. Cunningham ended up being the only ring girl for that fight, which came to a halt when Pimblett submitted Saint Denis less than a minute into the first round.

Cunningham later revealed that she had all of five minutes’ notice before she walked around the Octagon for her ring girl duties. A day later, UFC President Dana White pulled up to Michelob ULTRA Arena and watched as Cunningham sank six triples in a 109-75 rout of the Las Vegas Aces.
This season, Cunningham’s star power has risen to different levels, thanks to platforms like the UFC. It might just be a matter of time before other UFC fighters adopt the finger point as their celly.
Sophie Cunningham Does Finger Point With Young Fans Ahead of Fever-Storm Game
It’s not just professional athletes who are getting caught up in the Sophie Cunningham finger-pointing phenomenon. Even kids are joining in on the action.
In a clip posted by local Indiana reporter Angela Moryan, Cunningham does the finger point pose with two young fans ahead of the Fever-Storm game on Friday.
Though Cunningham (2 points, 0-for-3 from deep) didn’t have a stellar performance that night, fans were treated to a historic Caitlin Clark outing. The three-time WNBA All-Star finished with a career-high 45 points in a 110-107 Fever win over the Storm.
