Caitlin Clark is always under the microscope and every incident related to her becomes one of the biggest moments in the WNBA. Indiana Fever suffered an embarrassing defeat vs the Portland Fire. It was one of the worst games of Caitlin Clark’s career as she could manage only 6 points.
If an extremely bad night wasn’t enough to take over the WNBA world, her heated interaction with head coach Stephanie White certainly did the trick. There have been rumors of White’s possible firing. Many believe she does not get the best out of Caitlin and she might be on the coaching hot seat.
Their argument put fuel to the fire. However, both Caitlin and Stephanie were quick to eliminate any narrative of a problem between them.
When asked about the exchange, White completely dismissed all rumors about a rift with her star player. She shared that they have a great relationship and an argument of that sort is nothing new sports.
“I was challenging a player. It’s coaching, that’s what it is. I don’t often think it becomes an issue if you’re watching it in men’s sports most of the time. My relationship with Caitlin is great. I love Caitlin. I ride with her. We have a great relationship,” coach White said 0:10.
“I think that the narrative of people trying to make it something that it’s not is just you know taking sensationalism to try to get some clicks and all the other stuff. She wants to be coached. I want her to help me be a better coach. We’re both competitive. We’re both stubborn. We are more alike than different,” she added.
The reporter then asked how does a veteran coach like her handle all the attention. “This is not new. It’s not a new thing. It’s just new because everything that she does gets clicks. That’s how everybody makes money,” she answered at 1:00 with a gesture of hand towards the reporters.
White was seen yelling at Caitlin Clark during a time out in the game. It seemed like they were arguing about an incident during the game or having a disagreement over the next plan. White was passionately shouting when Caitlin Clark lifted both arms in annoyance and shook her head. Once again it seemed like a disagreement, which very easily also could have been just frustration about the game.
Caitlin Clark clears the air after viral disagreement with Stephanie White
Just like her coach Stephanie White, Caitlin Clark also dismissed all rumors of any split between the two. Her words pretty much matched with what White said. She made it clear that it was just competitiveness from herself and her coach. With a desire to win, arguments and disagreements like that are fairly common.
Caitlin Clark shared when last season she got injured, Stephanie White was the one who held her while she cried. She has full trust in her coach. Clark also pointed out that nobody in the team thought much about it because it was not a big deal. However, she also accused the “people in the media and the TV”.
they think they know a lot of things and they’re just blatantly wrong about a lot of things. And I ride for Steph. I ride for these girls. Steph has my back more than anybody,” she said.
