Saniya Rivers wasn’t pleased with what Caitlin Clark said to her during Wednesday’s game between the Connecticut Sun and the Indiana Fever. The visiting Sun couldn’t match Indiana’s intensity, as the Fever cruised to a convincing 123-88 victory.
In a contest that was as physical as any this season, tensions boiled over late in the third quarter, resulting in a heated exchange between Rivers and Clark.
The incident began after Clark was fouled by Connecticut center Olivia Nelson-Ododa. Rivers then appeared to take a swipe at Clark, prompting the Fever star to point toward the scoreboard, indicating that the game was all but over with Indiana holding a 28-point lead. Officials quickly stepped in and assessed technical fouls to both players to calm the situation.
Once the dust settled, Rivers let fans know how she felt about the incident.
In a reply to a fan on Threads, whose original post has since been deleted, Rivers wrote:
“Girl if we’re down by 50, I’m NEVER tolerating disrespect. As long as there’s time left on the clock, ima keep hoopin. Period.”

With the Sun rarely in control and often a step behind, the Fever cruised to a 123-88 victory to head into the All-Star break on a high note. Clark led the way with a double-double, finishing with 27 points and 11 assists while shooting 8-of-13 from the field, including five 3-pointers.
As for Rivers, she finished with 13 points, six assists, and two rebounds on 6-of-14 shooting off the bench. Connecticut and Indiana have already met twice this season, and each matchup has seemingly grown more heated than the last. The two teams will face each other twice more this season, with both games marking Connecticut’s final meetings against the Fever in Uncasville before the franchise relocates to Houston for the 2027 WNBA season.
Caitlin Clark on the Verge of Automatic Suspension
Between the two technical fouls handed out, Caitlin Clark’s was the more significant, as she is now just one technical foul away from receiving an automatic one-game suspension.
Under WNBA rules, any player who accumulates eight technical fouls during the regular season is automatically suspended for one game. Clark had already been assessed six technical fouls before Wednesday’s game. After picking up her seventh during the incident with Saniya Rivers, she is now on the verge of a suspension if she receives one more technical foul this season.
Clark and the Fever now head into a week-long All-Star break before returning to action for a three-game West Coast road trip, beginning with matchups against the Seattle Storm, Portland Fire, and Minnesota Lynx.
