Caitlin Clark has reportedly rejected her invitation to participate in the 3-point contest at the WNBA All-Star Weekend. Along with Clark, Sabrina Ionescu and Kayle McBride also declined their invitations, although Ionescu disputed the report, writing “Lies” on an Instagram post.
As for Clark, there has been a lot of discourse about her absence from the showcase event for the third year in a row. Many have blamed her for saying no yet again, while some have blamed the WNBA for not valuing her.
Sports analyst Skip Bayless said this on the matter.
“So, Caitlin, next year, just do it. I know you can. I know you will. It’s been baffling, and for me deflating and ultimately disappointing because I thought this year for sure you’ll just try this one,” Bayless said (Timestamp: 11:31)
“I know you haven’t shot it that well as a pro basketball player, but you’re still playing at a very high level. Your team’s playing at a high level. I thought this was your year. Next year will be. I’ll be waiting and I will definitely be watching.”
Skip Bayless compares Caitlin Clark with Stephen Curry and Larry Bird
While advocating for Caitlin Clark’s chances of winning the WNBA 3-point Contest, Skip Bayless likened her with Steph Curry and Larry Bird.
“Caitlin, if you’re watching, if you’re listening, I just encourage you next year to just do one, just for your legacy sake. Just participate. Obviously, as a great shooter, Steph’s going to participate. He’s going to win as we’ve seen. He’s going to lose, but Steph participated. and all the great shooters have participated. Larry Bird. I’ll never forget this. I was there in Dallas that day. God, he launches the money ball from the far corner. I’m on press row looking opposite and he’s got his finger up in the air. Ok. Does Caitlyn Clark have a little bit of Larry Bird in her as she plays in Indiana? Yes, she does,” Bayless said (TIMESTAMP: 10:39).
He said that Clark is opting out of the contest because it’s possible that she is not in a good mental space right. According to Bayless, Clark doesn’t want to risk failure and humiliation. However, he still believes that Clark has that clutch gene.
