There is a keen eye on Indiana Fever ever since they drafted Caitlin Clark in 2024. Clark has been one of the best players from her high school days. After breaking multiple high school records, she went on to break numerous college ones and now she has her eye on conquering the WNBA.
Clark is averaging 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists in 8 games this season so far. She hasn’t really been at her unstoppable best. Due to which, it has been an average start to the season for the Fever. There have also been multiple speculations about unrest between head coach Stephanie White and Caitlin Clark.
Among other incidents, the most recent one grabbed everyone’s attention. In Fever’s blowout loss vs Portland Fire, there was visible disagreement between White and Clark on multiple occasions. During a timeout, Stephanie White was drilling Clark and the team about something she seemingly had on the tactics board. In response, Clark threw her hands in the air and shook her head. Both were visibly heated. Clark talked about the viral clip later on.
During the media availability, Clark was naturally asked about the heated argument with her coach.
“First of all, two people being competitive, two people that really wanna win and I think a lot of those things happen all the time. And I know there’s a camera on me. That’s how it’s gonna be. But there’s a lot of people out there in the media or on TV that they think they know a lot of things and they’re just blatantly wrong about a lot of things. And I ride for Steph. I ride for these girls. Steph has my back more than anybody,” Caitlin Clark said.
“So, nobody in our locker room or coaching staff thought twice about it. It’s just another example of what everyone, all of you want to blow up and make something that is just lost and not in reality,” she called out the media.
Stephanie White talks about Caitlin Clark’s emotions
Following the animated exchanges, head coach White was asked about Caitlin Clark’s emotions. The reported mentioned how Clark seems to be an emotional player and how White navigates between good and bad emotions.
White answered that if she thinks it’s negative for the team, they’ll just acknowledge and try to channel it in the right direction.
“Emotion is a good thing. It’s one of the things that makes her special, you don’t want to take it away. There are times for poise and composure & when it feeds and carries us in runs that might not have happened if we didn’t have it,” she said.
