Caitlin Clark put on a show at Gainbridge Fieldhouse with the Indiana Fever in a blowout 123-88 win against the Connecticut Sun. In addition to her performance, Clark also made headlines with her trash talk during the game.
While fans are divided over Clark’s trash talk, which led to her seventh technical foul, Skip Bayless took to X to support the superstar. Bayless stated that Clark was unstoppable in the first half and he enjoyed watching her talk trash to the opponents.
“Sun couldn’t stop Caitlin in the first half, so now they’re predictably trying to bully her, physically intimidate her. She’s returning their trash talk. Love it,” he wrote.
Caitlin Clark had 27 points, shooting 8 of 13 from the field, 5 of 9 from the three-point line, and 6 of 6 from the charity stripe. She also had two rebounds, 11 assists, one steal, and one block.
The Fever were dominant from the beginning. At halftime, they had a 70-46 lead over the Sun. In the third quarter, when Connecticut players were trying their best to stop Clark, she got into an exchange with Saniya Rivers.
“Well, she said that she was locking me up, so I said scoreboard. And the ref didn’t like that,” Clark revealed at the post-game presser.
Pointing to the scoreboard was enough for the ref to hand Caitlin Clark a technical foul. This was her seventh overall, and one more technical foul will result in the Fever superstar getting suspended for one game by the WNBA.
Even though most fans are enjoying Clark’s fierce on-court attitude and exchanges with other players, some are concerned about how a suspension could affect the Fever at this stage in the season.
Indiana Fever HC on Caitlin Clark’s Technical Fouls
Caitlin Clark had received a technical foul during the 108-88 win over the New York Liberty as well. After the game, head coach Stephanie White had said that she would talk to her about the growing number of fouls.
“I didn’t ask for an explanation. I think there was a reaction probably after a call or a no-call. I don’t remember exactly at that moment,” she said. “But yeah, I mean certainly there are conversations, you know, and there have to be conversations.”
The Fever are currently fifth in the league with a 17-10 record. They are on a three-game winning streak and have won seven of their last 10 matchups.
