Caitlin Clark has been on a tear as of late, including her 45-point and 10-assist performance over the Seattle Storm last week. However, according to two podcasters, others have been pushing their own agendas regarding Clark’s career performance that night.
Just Women’s Sports’ Ros & Angel (Ros Gold-Onwude and Angel McCoughtry) discussed the reaction to Clark’s record-setting performance against the Storm, and they noted that many were using her for various reasons. This comes after several sports personalities like Skip Bayless and Robert Griffin III (RGIII) commented on her performance.
Bayless noted that no other player in the WNBA could do what Clark did, but the “Court Vision” hosts pointed out that Marina Mabrey scored 53 earlier this season, and the analyst never talked about her. As for RGIII, he wrote a long-winded tweet praising Clark, and the two podcasters noted that instead of just supporting one player, he should support them all.
“When the response is so, like outlandish, it distracts from the moment that Caitlin earned just by being nice at ball,” Ros said.
There has been a lot of pushback as of late regarding the high praise that Clark has been getting despite others also putting up similar numbers, and this response from Ros and Angel shows that. The pair noted that should another player, such as A’ja Wilson, put up another 40-point game, then maybe they should also praise her the same way.
Caitlin Clark Pushing More WNBA Viewership
Meanwhile, Indiana Fever games are giving the WNBA new eyes, especially with Caitlin Clark’s popularity now surging. This was evident when Clark and the Fever took on the New York Liberty on Saturday.
The matchup was aired by CBS and averaged 2.579 million viewers, peaking at 3.089 million. That contest is now also the second-most-watched WNBA game on any network since 2000.
It also speaks to Caitlin Clark’s overall popularity, as all of Indiana’s regular-season games were picked up by the various US national networks. This is the first time this has happened in WNBA history, with the demand for Fever games being high this season.
