“Players Won’t Like It”: Robert Griffin III Says “Disconnect” Between Fans and Players Over Caitlin Clark is Causing WNBA Trouble

Former NFL player Robert Griffin III is quick to give his thoughts on world affairs, so it was only a matter of time before he opened up about the Caitlin Clark situation in the WNBA. In a long tweet about the problems allegedly plaguing the WNBA at the moment, Griffin claimed a disconnect between what fans and players want may be causing some friction.

“The issue in the WNBA right now amongst the players is that when you say someone is the “FACE OF THE WNBA” every competitive player will only conceded that designation to a player that they believe as earned it with their play on the court,” he said on X.

“The “Face of the WNBA” to the players and former players is A’Ja Wilson…The Face of the WNBA to the fans is Caitlin Clark…And there lies the disconnect…The fans have spoken on this matter, but many players and former players won’t like it because the gap in the accomplishments between A’Ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark is massive.”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar added fuel to the debate with a post on his Substack earlier this week. The NBA legend said it was an insult to great players like Wilson to single out Clark as the face of the league.

Clark, meanwhile, responded to her naysayers by scoring a career-high 45 points in her latest outing against the Seattle Storm. Her efforts in the fourth quarter propelled the Indiana Fever to an 110-107 victory against a spirited Storm unit.

Caitlin Clark Comments About Naysayers After Record Tally

After scoring 45 points, Caitlin Clark made it clear that the haters don’t bother her and that she just goes about her business.

“It’s cool. I don’t really care. I know what I’m capable of, and I know what this team is capable of,” she said in a postgame interview.

Clark and the Indiana Fever are back in action on Saturday as they head to Indianapolis to face the New York Liberty.
