For Indiana Fever fans, one talking point this season has been the handling of Caitlin Clark’s minutes. On more than one occasion, Clark has had to play under a minutes restriction while making her way back from injuries that sidelined her for multiple games.
After the Fever defeated the Seattle Storm 110-107 on Friday, Clark made it clear that there were no restrictions for her that night. In the post-game media session, Clark shared what would have happened if anyone on her team had tried to scale back her minutes in the pivotal fourth quarter.
“Steph [White] knows better than that. The trainers know better than that. They would get an earful. I told Steph at halftime that I felt really good.”
Fans on social media reacted to Clark’s insistence on playing out the fourth quarter.
Clark went on to state that she trusts the work she’s put into her body, which gives her confidence in her durability.
The Fever led by as many as 17 points before squandering their advantage and having to stage a fourth-quarter comeback. Clark was instrumental in the Fever’s late rally, hitting the go-ahead three with under a minute left and finishing with a career-high 45 points.
Caitlin Clark Achieves Milestones in 3-Pointers Made and Double-Doubles as Fever Rally to Beat Storm
It was a historic night for Caitlin Clark in more ways than one.
In the win over the Storm, she became the fastest player to reach 200 career 3-pointers in the WNBA. Clark pulled off this feat in 74 games, comfortably beating the previous record of 81 set by Katie Smith.
By finishing with 45 points and 10 assists, Clark also tallied her 20th points-assists double-double. This ties her with Chelsea Gray for fourth-most double-doubles in that category.
