Caitlin Clark recorded her highest scoring game in the WNBA with 45 points and 10 assists in Friday’s 110-107 win for the Indiana Fever against the Seattle Storm. Clark was playing on a minute restriction, but it didn’t matter. In her 29 minutes, the superstar guard buried 11 of her 18 attempts, including six three-pointers. Clark was 17 of 19 from the free-throw line.
She also came up huge on the defensive end of the floor. Clark had four steals and two blocks, along with her historic 45-point, 10-assist double-double. According to the WNBA, Clark became the only player to score 40-plus points and dish 10-plus assists in a game.
Clark also became the Fever’s franchise record holder for most points in a game. It was just one of those nights for Clark, who was in desperate need of a vintage performance. Since she returned from a back injury on Jul. 8, the former No. 1 pick had struggled across the board. Clark averaged 11.3 points, shooting 35.1% from the field. She was 3-for-19 from deep.
Caitlin Clark gives immediate reaction after career-high WNBA game
Caitlin Clark wasn’t too high about her best-ever WNBA game. The Fever superstar’s immediate reaction was about staying ready for Indiana’s back-to-back game against the New York Liberty on Saturday night.
“True resiliency, but we’ve got another one tomorrow,” Clark said. “So this one is great, but let’s move on.”
Clark was also critical of the Fever’s defense.
“It was kind of an embarrassing performance on the defensive end, I’ll be honest,” she said. “We really got to find a way to be better.”
Clark came up with the best defensive possession of the game down the stretch. After the Fever committed a turnover while getting the ball to the superstar at the top of the key, Clark got a block on Flau’jae Johnson in transition and then hit a three-pointer on the other end, giving the Fever a three-point lead.
Clark hit two huge threes in clutch time to save the night for Indiana, who trailed by four with 2:32 left.
