Satou Sabally is one of the most talented international players in the WNBA, and now, she has teamed up with one of the most lethal squads. The German has officially signed with the New York Liberty to form one of the most dominant superteams, alongside Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones. Sounds like a warning to other teams, literally!
Shams Charania shared the big news on X and wrote:
“Major WNBA free agency domino: All-Star Satou Sabally has agreed to sign a multiyear deal to join the New York Liberty, agent Zack Miller of WME Basketball tells me.”
The Liberty won their first WNBA championship in 2024, and the core has remained the same. Add an experienced and explosive forward to the mix, and it looks like a recipe for another title. The 2023 WNBA Most Improved Player took the Phoenix Mercury to the finals last season and will now travel to New York on a multi-year deal.
Sabally is a shot creator with elite perimeter shooting and will add to the Liberty’s transition offense, with Ionescu running the floor with her. Even though Stewart has not officially announced her return, she has expressed her interest in remaining with the franchise.
“THEY ARE ALL CHEATING IDC,” Fans stunned over Satou Sabally forming superteam
Along with Jonquel Jones and Leonie Fiebich on the board, the team would command a considerable advantage on the board, over any team in the league. A fan highlighted that on X:
Another user said that the Liberty was cheating with their overpowered squad and wrote:
“WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS MAN THEY ARE ALL CHEATING IDC”
The 2026 free agency has been filled with surprising updates thus far, as players look to reap the benefits of the new CBA deal. Even though Satou Sabally was earlier rumored to be in conversation with several teams, like the Toronto Tempo, where her sister recently moved.
The Liberty have signalled that they were looking to go all in this season. Even though the team lacks a traditional operator, it now has multiple frontcourt operators who can set the offense and make winning plays.
Natasha Cloud also brings championship experience and adds to the team’s defense immensely, averaging 1.2 steals per game last season. Only time will tell if that firepower on paper converts on the floor when the new season finally kicks off.
