Natasha Cloud Free Agency: Viral Rumors on Guard Getting Blackballed Debunked by WNBA Reporter

WNBA reporter Annie Costabile has addressed social media rumors suggesting that Natasha Cloud is being blackballed by the league in light of her activism and political views.

Cloud, a ten-year veteran guard, has yet to find a new team for the 2026 season, with preseason well underway. Fans have speculated on social media that her pro-Palestine views may have made teams reluctant to sign her.

Costabile addressed the speculation on Sunday, reporting that several teams have expressed interest in Natasha Cloud.

“Multiple sources who work in the league have negated social media rumors that Cloud is being blackballed in the league because of her activism,” Costabile wrote for The Athletic on Sunday. “Decisions for some teams were made quickly when the signing period opened, which could have taken potential opportunities off the table for Cloud before she was fully aware of her standing in New York’s plans.”

Costabile’s report also mentions that Cloud switched her agents in the middle of free agency, which could have led to further delays in finding a new team.

Natasha Cloud averaged 10.1 points and 5.1 assists for the New York Liberty last season, displaying a blend of playmaking, shot-making and defensive ability.

Natasha Cloud shares a message on social media after going unsigned in free agency

Cloud shared a message on social media on Sunday, saying that her silence after going unsigned in free agency has been intentional.

“I have yet to speak. That’s intentional & my power. I’ve just worked. No sulking, no whining. Work & I will continue to work as I always have. Proving myself right year after year, after year. (11) to be exact. I know who I am. I know my value/worth. & ain’t nothing traditional,” she wrote.

Cloud shared another message last week, thanking her fans for their support amid her free agency situation.

“I’ve given my heart to every team and community I’ve been part of, never fully knowing if the impact I hoped for was truly felt. In this moment, though, receiving so much love, support, and advocacy means everything. It’s a powerful reminder that the impact I’ve wanted to make beyond the court is real—and aligned with what I believe God has called me to do through this game. I’m okay. Just taking things in; even if they weren’t what I expected, & trusting I’ll be alright.”

According to The Athletic’s Annie Costabile, Cloud has been in “talks with a few teams.”
