The WNBA practice camp has kicked off, but some free agency decisions, including Natasha Cloud, have shocked fans and analysts. The veteran two-way guard has gone unsigned thus far after spending the last season with the New York Liberty and helping the franchise to the playoffs. A WNBA analyst suggested a different point of view behind Cloud’s failure to land a roster spot.
Featuring on The Women’s Hoops Show, WNBA analyst Jordan Robinson shared her thoughts on the free agency market and stated that there were too many guards in the market that might have affected Natasha Cloud’s stock. The analyst first expressed her emotions on seeing Cloud not getting what she deserved:
“This one hurts on so many levels, or it just really makes me curious, is because somebody who was so active in CBA discussions and fighting for the players to get the most money and get all they can to make sure that they get what they deserve, and then to not be able to reap those benefits right away.”
Then, Robinson added her perspective to the reason and said:
“There is the other side that I know has been going around on social media is that because she is so vocal about her activism, about her opinions politically, maybe that has played a part in her free agency role… There are limited spots for guards, and it’s just so curious how it went from how she was in Phoenix, how she was in Washington, how she was with Liberty to nothing seems like a jolt.”
Natasha Cloud would be a serious offensive asset for any team in the league, but still awaits a big contract. She averaged 10.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists last season with the Liberty and was a consistent starter in the squad.
“I’ve given my heart to every team,” Natasha Cloud shares thoughts after remaining unsigned in free agency
Natasha Cloud shared her feelings on social media after she was not approached by any team in free agency. The 5-foot-10 guard took to Threads and wrote:
“I’ve given my heart to every team and community I’ve been part of, never fully knowing if the impact I hoped for was truly felt. In this moment, though, receiving so much love, support, and advocacy means everything. It’s a powerful reminder that the impact I’ve wanted to make beyond the court is real—and aligned with what I believe God has called me to do through this game.”
