Jason Whitlock Claims Fever Need Front Office Reset After Stephanie White’s Heated Exchange With Caitlin Clark

The Indiana Fever came in as one of the most hyped teams heading into the 2026 season of the WNBA, with superstar Caitlin Clark leading the way. However, the team has not been performing as expected, getting blown off by the fledgling Portland Fire in a 100-84 rout. The Fever has now fallen to a 4-4 record, even with big names like Caitlin Clark, Aaliyah Boston, Sophie Cunningham, Lexie Hall and Raven Johnson anchoring the team.

Many are blaming this slow start to head coach Stephanie White, who received some criticisms from her own star player, Caitlin Clark herself, leading to a heated exchange between coach and player. The team collapsed against the Fire during the fourth quarter, and many attributed it to White benching both Clark and Boston with just three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Many are now calling for White’s head, but sports personality Jason Whitlock is taking it a bit further, suggesting a complete overhaul of the team’s management.

“The Indiana Fever should consider bringing in Iowa athletic director Beth Goetz as Team President. She worked at Butler. She worked at UConn. She was the AD at Ball State. She’s a great human being and a real leader. Yes, I know her personal lifestyle… She’s awesome.”

Whitlock, who is known for his wild hot takes, noted that Iowa AD Beth Goetz should takeover as the new team president, though he did not directly say that a coaching change is needed.

Stephanie White Responds To Caitlin Clark’s Criticism Following Loss vs. Fire

After the game, Caitlin Clark stated that their “rotations were a little bit slow,” and stated that their rotations should be “a little bit quicker” in the future, This soon got Stephanie responding to her star player:

“I don’t know if foul trouble has a lot to do with rotations,” she said. “I think it’s just anticipation. “I think it’s activity, anticipation and awareness. We talk about our three A’s all the time: active, aware and anticipate.”

Still, this friction within the team has many wary that the team might not be able to make it to the playoffs. They are currently sitting in 9th place with their 4-4 record and there are still plenty of games to be played, but after that loss to the Fire, many question their coherency.
