In Caitlin Clark’s third WNBA season, her sage with officiating continues. In a viral clip from Friday’s Indiana Fever-Washington Mystics matchup, Clark can be seen exercising tremendous restraint as she interacts with one game official.
The clip shows Clark trying to get past the defense of Mystics guard Cassandre Prosper. After both players get physical with the use of their hands, the referee blows her whistle to call a foul on Prosper, who is visibly upset. But CC herself has an animated reaction; from the looks of it, she was moments away from doing a regrettable deed with the ball.
The caption of the X account BrickCenter spelled it out: “Caitlin Clark wanted to throw the ball at the ref so bad””
Seeing these events unfold, fans offered different takes on the situation involving Caitlin Clark.
“She can’t create separation from the defender herself that’s why her a** always got her arm up to damn near the players chest but she got the nerve to cry for a foul? Lmao”
“If they called that in the NBA Shai would be in the g league”
“Mystics have been fouling almost every possession and it isn’t being called”
“Pushing off a**”
“Bro the replay is not even a foul she’s got to get out of this great player”
“she complains so much”
For years, Fever head coach Stephanie White has decried the lack of calls on Clark’s defenders who supposedly cross the line as far as physicality is concerned. Clark’s detractors, meanwhile, have criticized the two-time All-Star for complaining and even cast doubt on her toughness.
“All These GMs Are Gonna Get Fired”: Lisa Leslie Stands Up for Caitlin Clark Amidst Poll Results That Favor Paige Bueckers
As for WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, she has publicly declared her support for Caitlin Clark on multiple instances.
Earlier this week, Leslie appeared on “First Take” and commented on the results of a survey among WNBA GMs. According to the results, 33% of the GMs would prefer to start a franchise with Paige Bueckers.
“All those GMs are gonna get fired because this is a money business, and the dollars is about Caitlin Clark…Never before have we had a player force teams to go to bigger arenas…I’m going with CC.”
For what it’s worth, both Clark and Bueckers are shaping up to be the superstars who will carry the WNBA into the future.
