The Chicago Sky’s recent decision to part ways with the face of the franchise, Angel Reese, has met with widespread criticism from fans and analysts. She was traded to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for two first-round picks in 2027 and 2028. Now, former NBA player-turned-analyst Gilbert Arenas has expressed his disagreement.
On Threads, the former Washington Wizard expressed his honest thoughts on Reese’s trade and demanded the General Manager of the team be fired. He wrote:
“Idk what’s going on with the Chicago Sky but they need to shut down the show organization. As much talent that has came through there and they just let it go for no reason???”
Arenas followed his statement with other posts, claiming that the 2-time WNBA All-Star was like a “cash cow” for the team, and they made a mistake by letting her go. He added:
“They just let go their cash cow and they think they about to get th fans back???”

Arenas also demanded that General Manager Jeff Pagliocca be fired for this decision.

The WNBA was starved of viewership before Caitlin Clark came to the league and changed the entire ecosystem for the better. Angel Reese is also a big part of that impact. Her rivalry with the Indiana Fever superstar and the caliber to compete with her on equal footing have piqued fans’ interest.
Meanwhile, the Sky will now look towards the free agency market and the WNBA draft to fill the gap left by the former LSU standout. The GM has already laid out the vision for the team after the trade.
“Designed to achieve roster balance,” GM Jeff Pagliocca talks about Angel Reese trade
As Gilbert Arenas mentioned, Angel Reese is not just a basketball player but brings a lot more with her to any city she goes to. Recently, she was seen walking on the runway for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Talking about her trade, Chicago Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca said:
“This trade is designed to achieve roster balance and represents a great opportunity for all parties.”
The decision followed a difficult season for the Sky in 2025, in which the team missed the playoffs. Moreover, Reese did not hesitate to let her feelings be known about the team and demanded that the management bring better players to make a serious title run. She led the franchise in all categories last season but sat out the final few games after getting suspended for making statements “detrimental to the team.”
