This includes WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes, with whom she has had candid moments over the years.
On Thursday, July 23, Wilson and Swoopes had a hilarious moment during a media summit for the 2026 WNBA All-Star Weekend. In a post on Instagram by journalist Sarah Spain, Swoopes was recorded saying that she tried setting her son up with Wilson for the former South Carolina Gamecocks standout to be her daughter-in-law. The crowd then laughed at this, with Wilson reacting to it in disbelief.

Swoopes has a son named Jordan Eric Jackson with her first husband, Eric Jackson. Jordan Eric Jackson was born in 1997, and has had stints with the NBA G League’s Maine Celtics. For Wilson, she is currently dating Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo. Their relationship went public in early 2025, and they have been publicly supportive of each other’s careers since then.

The connection between A’ja Wilson and Sheryl Swoopes runs deep, as they have acknowledged each other’s greatness over the years. They also share one historic statistic, which Wilson accomplished last year. Wilson and Swoopes are the only two players in WNBA history to have won the regular season MVP award and the Defensive Player of the Year award in the same season twice.
Swoopes won both awards in the year 2000 and in 2002 during her time with the Houston Comets. As mentioned, Wilson joined Swoopes on the elite list in 2025, and she previously achieved the feat in 2022 as well.
