“Maybe I’ll Do It With Steph Again”: Sabrina Ionescu Claps Back at Report She Declined WNBA 3-Point Contest

New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu, Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx’s Kayla McBride were reportedly invited to the WNBA All-Star 3-Point Contest but declined to participate. However, Ionescu and McBride both refuted the report.

On Wednesday, Ionescu first commented “Lies” on an Instagram post about her refusal. She then also shared that there was no invitation to begin with. McBride also posted a story on her Instagram account denying the report. Ionescu then mocked the ESPN story from Monday in a New York Post story on Wednesday.

“Maybe I’ll do it with Steph again at NBA All-Star and get a really nice official invite,” Ionescu said.

“I can’t decline an offer I never got officially invited to. So was pretty surprised to see that, never got invited. And obviously, whether it’s against Steph Curry or in the W, I always go out and try and beat my record every single time I’ve gone out. So yeah, I mean I just wanted to set the record straight. That was just false,” she said.

She said that she is really excited for the final participants and is looking forward to seeing who wins. The 3-point shooting percentages for Clark, Ionescu and McBride are:

1. Kayla McBride, 39.8%
2. Caitlin Clark, 34.5%
3. Sabrina Ionescu, 31.9%

WNBA All-Star 3-point contest participants

There are six players who are set to participate in the 3-point contest. Their 3-point shooting percentages this season ahead of the competition are:

1. Janelle Salaun, Golden State Valkyries, 39.4%
2. Marina Mabrey, Toronto Tempo, 39.2%
3. Azzi Fudd, Dallas Wings, 38.7%
4. Bridget Carleton, Portland Fire, 37.4%
5. Rhyne Howard, Atlanta Dream, 35.4%
6. Natisha Hiedeman, Seattle Storm, 34.3%

The 3-point contest will be held on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. The participants will receive $10,000 each, and the winner will win up to $70,000. Second place will win $40,000 extra and third place $25,000 over the base amount of $10,000.
