Indiana Fever forward Aliyah Boston was unhappy with the officiating in Thursday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries. The Fever lost 90-88 after Boston missed a potential game-winner.
Boston was limited by foul trouble throughout. She picked up two quick offensive fouls in the second quarter, which forced her to sit out most of it. She was hit with a third offensive foul in the third quarter, but it was overturned after a challenge.
After the game, when Boston was asked about the officiating, she said:
“I wasn’t able to get into a flow. It’s super hard to figure out how the refs are going to be calling it. It’s hard to get charge fouls when they’re not in legal position. Shout to the Valks for selling it and the refs bought it, to be honest.”
Boston struggled to get going, finishing with 13 points on 4-11 shooting.
The Fever shot a total of 21 free throws in the game, compared to 28 by the Valkyries.
The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Fever and dropped them to 4-3.
Caitlin Clark on Aliyah Boston’s passing abilities
Caitlin Clark found Aliyah Boston in the dying seconds of Thursday’s game, but the Fever forward could not get off a decent shot. Nevertheless, the moment shows the trust Clark has in Boston.
Earlier, when Clark featured on Candace Parker and Boston’s podcast, the guard praised her teammate for her versatility.
Clark said:
“There’s post players in this league that can score, that can rebound, but AB can pass. And then also like her IQ is also taken for granted, like people don’t understand, she’s just a smart player.”
The Fever return to action against the Portland Fire on Saturday.
