“I Said, ‘Scoreboard’”: Caitlin Clark Confirms Her Words in Viral Back and Forth With Saniya Rivers Leading to 7th Tech

On Wednesday, Caitlin Clark moved one step closer to an automatic one-game suspension after picking up her seventh technical foul of the season. The Indiana Fever star has aired out her side after the verbal altercation with Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers.

After the Fever blew out the Sun 123-88 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Clark relayed to reporters what she said to Rivers at the moment she got whistled for a tech.

“She said she was going to lock me up. So, I said, ‘Scoreboard.’ And the ref didn’t like that.”

The moment happened in the last 30 seconds of the third quarter. With the Fever comfortably up 95-67, Clark drew a double-team from Rivers and Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who made contact with Clark’s arm. Nelson-Ododa was called for a defensive foul, but during the dead ball situation, Rivers appeared to chirp at Clark. This prompted the three-time WNBA All-Star to mention and point to the scoreboard.

Per WNBA rules, the next technical foul that Clark picks up in the 2026 campaign will result in an automatic suspension. Though the Fever have found ways to win without their premier court general, Clark herself needs all the hardcourt reps she can get in order to sustain her rhythm this season.

“She’s Got to Pick and Choose”: Stephanie White Reacts to Caitlin Clark’s Latest Technical Foul

While Fever coach Stephanie White didn’t seem to be rattled by Caitlin Clark’s latest tech, she did indicate that Clark needs to be more prudent with her actions.

In the post-game interview, White also said that the Fever will help Clark address this moving forward.

“She’s got to pick and choose…She has awareness about it. We’ll try to help her when we can.”

White went on to joke that Clark might consider being “strategic” about picking up her next technical foul if there’s an upcoming game that she doesn’t want to play in.
