Cari Champion refused to back down after being criticized for her comments about Caitlin Clark.
Champion criticized the Indiana Fever guard for allegedly being rude to an official after she didn’t get a favorable call. She highlighted that Paige Bueckers was given a technical for what she deemed a less serious offense and said Clark was receiving preferential treatment.
“I don’t know if this is her fault, because I think it might be unfair for me to say that this is her fault. But at the same time, it’s like, why is she getting this special treatment? And it just is, yet again, another example of the league and its fans… being so precious with her.”
Clark fans quickly hit back at Champion, who stayed firm in her stance. She expressed her thoughts about the pushback, along with a montage of her podcast appearance on Instagram. She wrote in the caption:
“FYI- this isn’t a race issue- I’m talking accountability and responsibility. I would and have said the same of other supernovas. To whom much is given- much is required. I’m early so I’ll wait. Yall be blessed”
Clark shot 3-for-12 and scored 16 points in 29 minutes in the Fever’s loss to the Golden State Valkyries. Veronica Burton was the hero of the game, registering 25 points, six rebounds, and five blocks. The Valkyries won 90-88.
Caitlin Clark and Co. fumbled the game in the last play
Caitlin Clark and the Fever managed to keep the game close until the last play. With eight seconds left, Clark passed the ball to Aliyah Boston, who struggled to get a clean shot.
Boston again got the ball in the final second but couldn’t make the game-winner. She went 4-for-13 and scored 13 points with six rebounds. Raven Johnson contributed 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench.
The Fever will next face the Portland Fire. The last time they played, Clark was out of the roster due to back issues.
