Did Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark Face Massive Backlash for Alleged LGBTQ Comments? Viral Rumor Debunked

Caitlin Clark can not be kept away from the limelight for long. She has once again caused turmoil on social media after some users claimed that the Indiana Fever guard has made controversial statements about LGBTQ+ representation in children’s entertainment. The update has led to several conversations among fans, some even boycotting the WNBA superstar. But what’s the truth behind it?

The statement claimed by users on social media is interestingly attributed to both Clark and her trusted teammate, Sophie Cunningham. A post on X shared a similar post and wrote:

“Sophie Cunningham & Caitlin Clark are stirring up the lunatic fringe again!!
    Will you boycott the boycott???”

The comments shared above are not verified by any source, and neither Clark nor Cunningham has given any statements about the rumor. For now, the claim seems to stem from an empty rumor.

Cunningham, on the other hand, remains in the spotlight for her stance on the LGBTQ+ community and other social issues. She made noise last season when she refused to wear the WNBA-mandated Pride patch in solidarity with the community, saying the league should stay away from politics. Moreover, Clark has also been criticized online several times for similar things. She also announced a children’s book last month.

Caitlin Clark to release children’s book based on her life

In the last week of April, Caitlin Clark announced a picture book titled EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams, which is scheduled to be published on November 3. It will feature stories from Clark’s personal life, meant to motivate youngsters to pursue their dreams. The illustrations in the book are done by Adriana Predoi.

Clark earlier, in her statement, revealed that the idea behind the book stemmed from a poster in her childhood room that read, “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little EXTRA.” She said, via The Associated Press:

“I hope this book reminds kids that they’re never alone in chasing their dreams and that giving a little extra to the people and moments is what makes them EXTRAordinary.”

The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year has inspired several children and young basketball talents in the country. She brought the much-needed attention to the league, leading a surge in players’ salaries this season after the new CBA terms were accepted.

Meanwhile, this season has been topsy-turvy for Caitlin Clark and the Fever, who have lost two of the first three games. The WNBA All-Star has also struggled with her efficiency and has been under scrutiny for her off-court relationship with head coach Stephanie White. She has returned after a season-long hiatus and hopes to lead the team to a title-contending season.
