Brianna Turner shared a long rant on social media, expressing her thoughts on the latest conversation on the inclusion of transgender women in the WNBA. Sophie Cunningham’s recent thoughts on the “protection of young girls in a locker room” have created a ripple effect in the WNBA. Meanwhile, Turner’s rant revealed a shocking incident that occurred during her time with the Fever.
Turner, a Las Vegas Aces forward, reshared Reeve’s post on X and suggested that most takes on the issue were “based on fear mongering and bigotry.” In her further posts, she highlighted a significant event from “last year on my WNBA team,” when she was part of the Indiana Fever.
Turner wrote:
“An issue that has caused problems though? Last year on my WNBA team a male staff member was fired for sexual harassment, but we were encouraged to keep quiet about it. That is an issue. Sexism, misogyny, homophobia, and racism are all issues.”
There has not been confirmation of Turner’s allegation. However, given Turner was on the squad, public revelation of such an incident is significant.
The conversation began when the league decided to make the WNBA All-Star a gender-expansive event and invited the LGBTQ+ community to be a part. People like popular conservative political activist Riley Gaines took a dig at the league for its decision.
“Sports can create a safe space,” Brianna Turner once advocated for transgender rights
In her X thread, Brianna Turner also made it clear to fans that her stance was not new, as she has been a vocal supporter of transgender rights. She shared a few throwback pictures in which she stood up for the cause in varied ways. The Aces forward wrote:
“Not new to this, been true to this”
In an interview with Abby Waddington of the Voice in Sport on Sept. 24, Turner talked about transgender kids and their struggles:
“The inclusion of trans girls in youth sports matters because trans youth deserve an opportunity to just be kids. Sports can create a safe space for trans girls to participate and feel a sense of normalcy in a life where others, particularly politicians, make it their mission to intervene.”
Cunningham has garnered support from a few Republican representatives since her remarks about the issue went viral.
Meanwhile, the Fever extended their winning streak with a 128-88 win over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday, as teams take an All-Star break.
