After the Atlanta Dream registered a dominant 15-point comeback to defeat the Phoenix Mercury, Angel Reese stated that hers was the best time in the league. However, she had to eat her words in the next game. The Minnesota Lynx, without Napheesa Collier, managed to edge the Dream 96-81 in a dominant display of defense.
Collier is out of the active roster due to her ankle injuries. However, that didn’t stop the team from winning against the Dream. After the team’s brutal loss, a fan took to social media to highlight Reese’s performance just after her big statement that “we the number one team right now in the W.”
The user wrote on X:
“I thought Angel Reese made comment that @AtlantaDream is best team in league. Lynx without Phee crushing them 20-9. LOL. Someone needs to keep mouth shut.”
Reese is one of the polarizing figures in the WNBA, regularly in the limelight for her honest thoughts on things related to basketball. However, some Reese fans defended her in the comments.
Courtney Williams led the team with 25 points against the Dream, with help from Natasha Howard, who contributed 22 points. Reese, on the other hand, scored 10 points and eight rebounds, shooting 3-8 from the field.
Angel Reese has a few things to address as the season progresses
While the Dream is on a winning run with Angel Reese, 4-2, after a long time, the center’s offense remains an issue. She has done stellar work on the board, but is the only starter in the WNBA who has not shot the ball from more than five feet.
Reese’s long-range shooting has always been a problem, shooting 18.8% and 18.2% from deep in her initial two seasons. This season, she has attempted 0.8. deep shots, but hasn’t made a single one of them. She is also shooting just above 40% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line.
Averaging one block per game, the defense is not where Reese would be concerned a lot. However, she has to improve her jumper and free throws if she wants to make a considerable impact in the team’s title contention this season.
