Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy showed support for Caitlin Clark following Wednesday’s Indiana Fever vs. Golden State Valkyries game.
Clark was once again in the spotlight as she yelled at a referee after decisions went against the Fever. In the second quarter, Clark dribbled to the basket and attempted a layup, but fell after making contact with Kiah Stokes. The Fever’s Aliyah Boston was then called for a foul, leading to Clark’s outburst.
Portnoy questioned the officiating while taking a jab at WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
“Are we just gonna keep letting players assault Caitlin?” Portnoy tweeted. “I mean, when is enough enough? This is borderline manslaughter in some states!
“Cathy will not be happy till she’s crippled and outtA the league! Have fun flying commercial again!”
Officiating in Fever games has become a contentious topic in recent weeks.
Last month, during the Fever vs. Mercury game, Alyssa Thomas’ fist made contact with Clark’s throat when she was on the ground. No foul was called on the floor, but the WNBA reviewed the incident and upgraded it to a Flagrant 2, suspending Thomas for one game and fining her $1,000.
Caitlin Clark calls out officials after Kiah Stokes incident during Fever vs. Valkyries game
In her post-game press conference, Caitlin Clark was asked about the incident with Kiah Stokes. The Fever star said she was hit by Stokes in the quad.
“The ref can’t miss that,” Clark said. “And I have to play with a contusion in my leg the rest of the game. It’s ridiculous. You can’t miss calls like that.
“She (the official) said I initiated contact, which is fine. You can’t knee me in the leg, knock me over!”
The Valkyries emerged victorious 88-75. Caitlin Clark scored 13 points, along with three rebounds and six assists in 26 minutes.
