Caitlin Clark thinks Stephanie White is the ideal coach she needs, as it can get “difficult” to lead her.
During a sit-down with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, which was released Friday, Clark gave White her flowers while dissecting their relationship and assessing her coachability.
“I think I’m easy to coach and Steph would say the same thing. ” Clark told Andrews. “I think, at times, maybe difficult too. I don’t think many people get guarded the way I do. So, I think you have to get creative, scheme-wise. But I don’t think there’s a better person to do that than Coach Steph. I love Coach Steph.
Clark said she loves White’s competitive fire the most, as they are similar in that regard. Clark added they go at each other sometimes, as seen earlier this season during the 100-84 loss to Portland on May 30, but said they overcome those issues because of their love for each other.
The scrutiny of their relationship has been at an all-time high since then. Not just that, Clark and some sections of the Fever’s fans have often complained that White’s schemes don’t suit the superstar guard’s play.
Every comment and remark from either Clark or White has been under a microscope since. The duo maintains their relationship isn’t impacted by outside noise.
Jason Whitlock seemingly critical of Stephanie White’s move on Caitlin Clark’s sneaker debut night
Caitlin Clark debuted her signature kicks with Nike in Thursday’s 108-101 loss to the Atlanta Dream. On a night that should have been about her release, her rival Angel Reese released a new colorway of her signature shoe in the same game. Meanwhile, Fever coach Stephanie White showed up to the game wearing her custom Nike shoes and her old #22 jersey.
An X user, Evelyn DR, complained about Reese and White overshadowing Clark’s milestone night. Jason Whitlock addressed the tweet and couldn’t help but think the story around White was “interesting.”
There wasn’t much deeper meaning behind it, but such conversations have been in the spotlight since Clark and White’s sideline altercation from weeks ago. Whitlock has consistently commented on it and, at times, even switched sides.
Lately, he’s been critical of Clark more than White, Reese, or any other entity associated with the Fever superstar.
