Stephanie White has seen an uptick in criticism in recent days after getting into trouble twice. Fans didn’t react kindly to her inability to help win over referees who refused to call an apparent foul on Caitlin Clark against the Golden State Valkyries. Now, the coach has found herself being criticized once again after benching one of her best players.
White benched Aliyah Boston in an important moment of the game, which drew the ire of one fan. That outburst led to a response from NBA legend Ron Harper, who agreed and then threw his hat into the ring.
“Indiana has to FIRE Stephanie White after this!! 🤯” the account posted. “She has benched Aliyah Boston in the clutch – one of Indiana’s best players & friend/supporter of Caitlin Clark. ENOUGH. We need a coach who’s trying to win, not play politics 🔥.”
The “politics” comment appeared to be a reference to Boston’s advocacy of diversity.
“Can I get that job????” Harper responded, tagging the Indiana Fever.

Stephanie White Delivers Financial Reason For Tepid Response Against Referees
Stephanie White’s reserved reaction to the viral Caitlin Clark moment against the Golden State Valkyries has been a huge point of contention. In a statement to reporters in a video clip posted on YouTube via team media, White revealed why she was hesitant to speak out against the referees. The reason? Fear.
When asked a second time about Clark’s knee-quad controversy, the coach raised her voice to the reporter before revealing a fear of being fined.
“Chloe! I’m trying not to get fined. Again, all I’ll say is that we just keep asking for consistency.”
A video clip posted on X of the contest showed Clark driving to the basket, receiving contact from a defender, and falling to the ground.
So, fans unhappy with the coach’s tepid response to the apparent no-call foul have more reason to criticize her as the team gets ready for its next contest. White’s Fever will face the Seattle Storm on Friday.
