The UCF Knights are riding high after upsetting No. 23 BYU in a stunning 97-84 road victory on Tuesday. This win over an AP Top 25 team would also boost their chances of making the annual NCAA National Championship Tournament, better known as March Madness, which will kick off next month.
The team now has a 20-7 record and is 9-6 in the Big 12, and they have some very solid victories over Top 25 teams, including against the No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks and the No. 11 Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Given that they have a winning record and that they have defeated top-ranked teams already, it should be safe to say that the Knights are expected to play in the tournament next month, though their seed would not be as high as they would have hoped. Their next game will be against Baylor, a pretty winnable one, and a win might boost their seeding, too.
Several outlets are already predicting which seed the UCF Knights will get, with the highest being the No. 8 seed in the South, while On3 has them as the No. 9 seed in the South. Fox Sports has them as the No. 9 seed in the Midwest, while ESPN, CBS and Bleacher Report all have the team as the No. 10 seed in the East.
UCF March Madness Chances
As stated earlier, the UCF Knights have quite a high chance of making it to March Madness. The team is listed by USA Today as a “Likely In”, which means that they have between a 70% and 98.9% chance to reach the NCAA Tournament. With so few games left, the chances are very high, especially as they already tallied 20 wins this season.
The Knights only have three games left on the regular season calendar, and after that will be the postseason, which includes the Big 12 tournament and March Madness. After they take on Baylor on Saturday, the team will next faceoff against Oklahoma State on Tuesday, before ending the season against West Virginia.
These last three games are very winnable for UCF as they strengthen their case for the national title tournament. While they are likely to have a lower seed, they may also get brackets where they can get opponents that they can also beat in the first round.
